Construction on checkpoint

Construction begins Monday, Jan. 4, on upgrades to the interim Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 19 north of Tubac.
The first phase of the project involves the milling of the shoulder of the road and repaving, during which I-19 will be restricted to one lane going north for about a week.
Both northbound lanes will be closed for short periods in the early morning hours to install a large rain and shade canopy. That will come near the end of the three-month project, according to the Border Patrol.
