The Tubac Fire Department has announced the local implementation of growing national neighborhood alert system. After a few weeks of testing, Michael Lindsey, Communications specialist for the Tubac Fire District, announced yesterday that the system was on line here and has already sent out a couple announcements related to the monsoons. According to its website: Nixle is a free service that allows you to receive trusted, up-to-the-minute, neighborhood information for where you live, work, visit - or for where your family and friends are located throughout the country.
You choose the information you want, for the locations you want, from urgent public safety alerts to less time sensitive advisories and community information.
You choose how you want to receive the information, whether it is over your cell phone by text message, by email, or over the web.
You stay connected to what is happening in the communities and the locations that are relevant to you!
Registration is FREE, SIMPLE, and SECURE. There are still some bugs to work out locally. Because of our rural roads with inaccurate mapping, some residents' addresses may not be in the system. For dealing with our local situation, see the Local Instructions below. To learn more about and sign up for this new community communication system, go to Nixle's website at http://www.nixle.com/about_consumer.html. Local Instructions Nixle records your location (you may input several) in order to direct the appropriate messages to you. If your address is not on record, you may have to put in an intersection. In some parts of Rio Rico, for example, you may have to put in false intersection, because so many roads are misnamed, some do not exist, and existing ones are not recorded. Go to Google Maps http://maps.google.com/maps , input your area (i.e. Rio Rico, AZ), choose the satellite view, and drag the map over your location. By panning and zooming, find the intersection of two named roads closest to you and enter those in the appropriate box on Nixle, even if the names are incorrect. Lindsey reports that Nixle is working with Google to work on the maps program and also may implement its own proprietary system. Meanwhile, most of the alerts are applicable to large areas, and once you have established an account, you will welcome the timely information about conditions and events in our area.

SantaCruzNow is getting a new look. You may have noticed some changes already. As we try to use more current display methods, we will be experimenting with fonts, colors, and layout to make the content more attractive and easier to read. There will also be some changes in content, and some pages will be getting new "skins". There is an exciting new widget, Google translate, on the HOME page. Clicking on it and choosing a language will result in the page reloading with the content on the page, and each subsequent page, displayed in that language. Currently the widget messes up the layout, one more reason for upgrading the website, but the content remains. So if you know anyone who has had difficulty accessing the information on this site because of language limitations, please invite them to return. Also we can also accept submissions in the listed languages. Also, in the near future we will be revising part of the site to offer easier access to information about the people and places in this area. Last, but not least, you can now follow us on Twitter. Click on the symbol and you will be notified when the website is updated. Now is your chance to make this site more "You-ser" friendly. If you have a complaint or suggestion that will improve its usefulness to you, please post a comment or click "contact" below.

This is an example of a blog post. The content could be a news item, an opinion piece, a resource description, or a list of links to other pages or sites.
The post, if long, may be truncated, with just a "teaser" to let you know its content. Clicking on the "more" link or a page number at the bottom of the displayed content will take you to the rest of the post. There may be links embedded in the post which can take you to additional content.
Most posts will have a "send feedback" link which you can click and post a comment yourself. There you can enhance, correct, or express your opinion about what you have read. As long as it is civil, all feedback is welcome.
Posts are categorized. A list of the categories can be found in the sidebar, and by clicking on one you may narrow the posts displayed to that category.
There are several blogs on this site organized by the type of content. The "News" blog attempts to keep abreast of current events affecting to residents of this area. The "Views" blog is the place to find out what folks are thinking and feeling about. "Resources" is where you can find out information about almost everything (eventually). There is a "Communities" section focusing on particular towns or neighborhoods. Finally there is an events calendar which can be as extensive as readers wish. It especially is dependent on input from the community to make it as comprehensive and useful as possible.
If you would like to see something on this site which is not there, contact the webmaster. You can also offer criticisms and suggestions for improvement.
