The Public Works Department will be using NIXLE exclusively as the department's chosen media for notifying the public of road closures due to Monsoon storms. Please pass the word to neighbors and others that if they want to stay on top of where the County has closed access that they should subscribe to the free service

Seal coating on State Routes 82 and 83

TUCSON - Two sections of State Route 82 and one section of State Route 83 will be treated with an oil to rejuvenate the asphalt and help prevent potholes, the Arizona Department of Transportation says. The process is called seal coating. Both northbound and southbound lanes will receive the treatment.
The oil will be applied to the following sections on State Route 82:
.        7 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 26 and 27: A 12-mile section between the junctions of State Routes 82 and 83 to Rascal Ranch Road
.        7 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 28 and 29: A nine-mile section from Royal Road to Lake Patagonia Road
The oil will be applied to the following section of State Route 83:
.        7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 4 to 6: A 13-mile section between I-10 and milepost 46
One lane will be open at all times. Flaggers and a pilot car will direct traffic. Drivers can expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed with caution, obey all posted speed limit signs, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned roadway restrictions, during any complex construction project there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather could also affect the schedule. ADOT appreciates the patience of the travelling public as crews construct these improvements.

Seal coating coming on I-19

Several sections of Interstate 19, from Duval Mine Road south to Tubac, will be treated soon with an oil to rejuvenate the asphalt and help prevent potholes, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The seal coating will be applied on both northbound and southbound lanes on the following dates and times:

. 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 27-28:? a 12-mile section between Arivaca Road and Duval Mine Road.

. 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug.2: a 5-mile section between Palo Parado Road to the Tubac exit.

. 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug 3: a 5-mile section from Chavez Siding Road to Arivaca Road.

One lane in each direction will be open at all times. Drivers can expect no delays. However, there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather could also affect the schedule.

Palo Parado Information

Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 5:30 PM, Santa Cruz County will be hosting a public meeting regarding the Palo Parado project at the Tubac Fire Station #3 on Camino Josefina in Rio Rico. County staff and CPE Consultants will be presenting an update on where the county is with this project.

Neighborhood alert system is initiated in Santa Cruz County

The Tubac Fire Department has announced the local implementation of a growing national neighborhood alert system. Santa Cruz County is also participating.

Tubac Fire District is competing for a $10,000 Grant from Nixle and requesting your help.

Santa Cruz County cuts days for dumping trash

Beginning the week of Sept. 21, the county will close the Rio Rico landfill on Sundays and eliminate Thursday from the dumping schedule in Sonoita and Tubac.

"Sunday dumping doesn't pay for itself," Karl Moyers, solid waste manager, told Santa Cruz County supervisors on Aug. 12.

The county will reduce the landfill hours and leave two vacant positions unfilled to save an estimated $120,000 per year, Moyers said. The supervisors voted 3-0 to approve the changes.

Here is the new schedule, effective Sept. 21:

Rio Rico landfill: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; closed on Sunday.

Sonoita-Elgin landfill and the Tubac-Amado transfer station: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
